Beertje Colargol

Ok it's time for nostalgia. One of my earliest memories watching telly was a show called Beertje Colargol (in Dutch), UK viewers will know him as Barnaby, Canadians as Jeremy. As the show went all over the world there must have been all sorts of different names and nicknames for the little bear.

I remember mostly the tune already made me feel sad though it's pretty cheery. Probably as Colargol had to leave his parents because he wanted to sing and wasn't allowed to. So he ventured out, all over the world (and even on the moon), and experienced all kinds of adventures.

The basis for the stop-motion series were French books by Olga Pouchine but the series was made in France and Poland by Albert Barillé (producer) and Tadeusz Wilkosz (animator/director). Not that many episodes were made (53 13-minute episodes) as the technique was pretty expensive. It seems two feature films were made later but I can't remember having seen those.

You can find some episodes or segments on YouTube but as I still like the tune I've uploaded some versions: French, Dutch, English (UK), Canadian, Norwegian, Polish and Hebrew.

Also I found an interview with Tadeusz Wilkosz in a very nice Canadian magazine called Frames per Second focusing on animation, pages 18 to 22 for the interview but do check out the rest of the magazine and the blog. Apparently the series is not available on DVD (except in Poland) because of legal difficulties, sadly.

First post

Hello world,

And here it is. Another person's view on the world.

Me Amsterdam-based film-freak with a love for (some will say awful) music and weird things. Let me see how this works and will get back to you soon.

Just a taste (shock-horror). I know a couple of Austrians in Amsterdam and this will always make them cringe:
Austria 1983: Westend - Hurricane

Don't you just love the eighties!

Check out this wonderful Swiss database where you can find all kinds of weird and pretty normal music.
